About Alan Doyle

Alan did his teacher & judges trainng in America under the instruction of Skippy Blair, Sarah Grusmark, Mary Ann Nunez & Sharlot Bott. With all these qualifications Skippy, Sarah, Mary Ann & Sharlott were the perfect people to train under and Alan has brought this training back to Dublin! Alan specialises in West Coast Swing.

  • Alan learnt to dance jive in Wexford in 2004.
  • In 2006, he moved to Dublin and he did jive teacher training with the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Dance Teachers (UKA).
  • In 2008, he learnt to dance swing in California.
  • He did his swing, ballroom & latin teacher & judges training in California with the Golden State Dance Teachers Association & World Swing Dance Council (specialising in Westie).
  • Alan is the only certified GSDTA teacher in Ireland.
  • Alan has been teaching Jive & Swing dance classes in Dublin since 2007.

Skippy Blair

  • Skippy Blair (born 1924) is an American dance teacher for over 50 years. Blair's first Dance Studio was on Firestone at Woodruff, next door to the Downey Elk's Hall in Downey, California, opened in 1958. She is the founder of the Golden State Dance Teachers Association and co-founder of the World Swing Dance Council.
  • She developed the Universal Unit System, a system of dance education that emphasizes music and its relationship to the dance, balance and body dynamics.
  • In 1994 she was inducted into the National Swing Dance Hall of Fame.

  • Sarah's Dance career began in 1986. Sarah trained in Ballet and Jazz for six years before discovering Swing. In 1998, Sarah placed 3rd, with fellow GSDTA Specialist (Champion Dancer) Tatiana Mollman, in the first Female West Coast Swing Team: Double Vision at the US Open Swing Dance Championships. In 1999, with the inclusion of fellow GSDTA Specialist (Champion Dancer) Jessica Cox, the team won the competition again. In 2008, Sarah and Warren D'Aquin won the Masters Division of the US Open Swing Dance Championships.
  • Now, Sarah assists her mentor and great friend Skippy Blair (with whom she lives, studies, practises and works) in the teaching and promotion of West Coast Swing and other contemporary Social Dances.
  • Sarah is widely respected for her work with Skippy Blair, which includes lecturing in various universities, including the prestigious Stanford University; teaching GSDTA Intensives throughout the U.S.A.; and assisting in the administration of the GSDTA.
